PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board has approved funding for construction projects requested by Arkansas State University campuses in Newport and Jonesboro.
The board met Friday in Pine Bluff and approved a $2 million loan for ASU-Newport to build a classroom building for its hospitality management program. The board also approved a nearly $20 million bond issue for the Jonesboro campus to build five residence halls to house sororities as well a new honors dormitory. The bond issue would also pay for a new heating and air system in Kays Hall.
In other business, the board also approved new academic programs at Arkansas schools, including a new bachelor's of science in biomedical engineering at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
