Bring your family to 'Fun Day' at MLK Park

PINE BLUFF, Arkansas – May 8, 2012 – On Saturday, May 19, 2012 beginning at 9am to 3 pm, the
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting their 6th Annual Sheriff’s Fun Day Event at the Martin
Luther King, Jr. Park located on Rhinehart Road in Pine Bluff.

Last year’s event, although a one-day event, was a success and its youth outreach effects were far-reaching, drawing hundreds to a day of free food, fun and entertainment.

The mission of Sheriff’s Fun Day, which Jefferson County Sheriff Gerald Robinson oversees, is to “share with the youth many of the necessities of life they are lacking-namely such as positive recreation and outreach programs in a controlled environment.”

Sheriff’s Fun Day is committed to positively impacting the lives of all youth to include those who are underprivileged. This event provides the youth in the community to interact with members of law enforcement and other partners in a positive controlled environment.

Pine Bluff residents protesting police chief

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) -- Protestors gather in front of city hall in Pine Bluff Friday to express outrage over the department's handling of evidence in the Cleashindra Hall murder case.

Hall disappeared 18 years ago May 11.   She was last seen at the home and office of Dr. Larry Amos on Faucett Road in Pine Bluff.

Amos' home was searched on March 29 after new leads developed, but police said they didn't send the evidence to the crime lab until earlier this week.

Pine Bluff Resident Erica Allen says she worked with Cleashindra Hall the day she disappeared back in 1994.

"I offered her a ride home." says Allen.

Allen says they worked in the home of Dr. Larry Amos.   Friday she protested in honor of her friend.

"The lack of detail is what we need to talk about." says Allen.

St. Joseph School to remain open in Pine Bluff

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) - The Diocese of Little Rock says St. Joseph School in Pine Bluff will stay open for another year.

The high school and junior high had been slated for closure at the end of the current school year. But Most Rev. Anthony B. Taylor, bishop of the Diocese of Little Rock, announced the last black Catholic school in the state will keep its doors open for the 2012-13 academic year.

Taylor made the announcement at a graduation speech at the school Thursday night, and the diocese formalized the announcement on Friday.

Taylor had said the school needed to have 60 students preregistered and would need $200,000 in private donations. Fifty-one students have pre-enrolled and the school has raised $158,000. But the campus developed a balanced budget, which swayed Taylor.
